The Level 1 recruitment, known as Group D, fills posts such as Pointsman B, Track Maintainer Grade IV and Assistants in the electrical, signal, mechanical and engineering departments of Indian Railways. Selection is a computer based test followed by a physical efficiency test.

Age is counted as on 1 January 2026.
An engineering diploma or degree is not accepted in place of ITI or course-completed apprenticeship, unless the notice says so.
Pointsman B, Track Maintainer Grade IV, Assistant Bridge and Assistant P.Way are not open to PwBD candidates; the other posts are open to some disabilities (Annexure A).
Vacancies under CCAA are only for apprentices trained in railway establishments.

The section split is indicative. Candidates allowed a scribe get 120 minutes. Minimum marks to qualify in the CBT: UR and EWS 40%, OBC 30%, SC 30%, ST 30%. PwBD candidates, ex-servicemen and course-completed Act Apprentices are exempt from the PET.

How many vacancies are there in RRB Group D 2026 (CEN 09/2025)?
The notice lists 22,195 Level 1 vacancies across the railway zones. Two corrigenda later revised the Metro Railway Kolkata rows. The previous notice, CEN 08/2024, had 32,438.
What qualification is needed for RRB Group D?
10th pass, or ITI or equivalent, or a National Apprenticeship Certificate (NAC) granted by NCVT. You must hold it by the closing date of the notice.
What is the age limit for RRB Group D?
18 to 33 years as on 1 January 2026. OBC candidates get 3 more years, SC and ST 5, and PwBD 10, 13 or 15 by category.
What is the Group D physical test?
Men must lift and carry 35 kg for 100 metres in 2 minutes and run 1,000 metres in 4 minutes 15 seconds. Women carry 20 kg for 100 metres in 2 minutes and run 1,000 metres in 5 minutes 40 seconds. Each is in one chance, and failing the weight test ends the PET.
Is there negative marking in RRB Group D?
Yes. One third of a mark is deducted for each wrong answer in the CBT.
When was the CBT for CEN 09/2025?
RRB’s revised schedule of 30 July 2026 set the CBT for 16 days: 3 to 6, 9 to 14, 17 to 21 and 25 August 2026.
