The Technician recruitment fills Technician Grade-I Signal posts for science graduates and engineering diploma holders, and Technician Grade-III posts in trades such as fitter, electrician, welder and machinist for ITI holders. Each grade has its own computer based test.

Age is counted as on 1 July 2026.
An engineering diploma or degree is not accepted in place of ITI or course-completed apprenticeship for Grade-III, unless the notice says so.
Apply separately for each pay level, to one RRB per level, and pay the fee for each.
Course-completed Act Apprentices get age relaxation for the training period (maximum 3 years) for Grade-III posts.

The section split is indicative. Minimum marks to qualify: UR and EWS 40%, OBC 30%, SC 30%, ST 25%; PwBD may be relaxed by 2 marks if PwBD candidates fall short. The CBT marks are used to shortlist for document verification.

How many vacancies are there in RRB Technician 2026?
6,557 under CEN 02/2026: 323 Technician Grade-I Signal and 6,234 Technician Grade-III. The largest Grade-III category is Fitter (PU & WS) with 1,109. The previous notice, CEN 02/2025, had 6,238.
Who can apply for Technician Grade-I Signal?
Candidates with a B.Sc in Physics, Electronics, Computer Science, IT or Instrumentation, or a three-year engineering diploma or engineering degree in these streams, aged 18 to 33 on 1 July 2026.
Who can apply for Technician Grade-III?
10th pass candidates with an ITI or course-completed Act Apprenticeship in the trade listed for the post, aged 18 to 30 on 1 July 2026. A diploma or degree is not accepted in place of the ITI unless the notice says so.
Can I apply for both Grade I and Grade III?
Yes, if eligible. There is a separate CBT for each pay level, so you submit a separate application and pay the fee for each, choosing one RRB per pay level.
When is the RRB Technician 2026 exam?
RRB’s notice of 10 September 2026 schedules the CBT for Grade I and Grade III from 6 to 9 October 2026. Application status was released on the same day.
Is there negative marking in RRB Technician?
Yes. One third of a mark is deducted for each wrong answer.
