The Non-Technical Popular Categories exams recruit for Station Master, Goods Train Manager, Commercial cum Ticket Clerk, typists and other posts in Indian Railways. There are two notices: one for graduates and one for 12th pass candidates. Both use the same two-stage CBT.

The 50% condition for undergraduate posts does not apply to SC, ST, PwBD and ex-servicemen candidates, or to candidates with a qualification higher than 12th.

You must hold the qualification by the closing date of the notice. Candidates waiting for results cannot apply.

You can choose only one RRB. More than one application leads to rejection of all of them.

Candidates who have had LASIK or other eye surgery are not eligible for the A-2 posts (Station Master, Goods Train Manager, Traffic Assistant).

The section split is indicative. Candidates allowed a scribe get 120 minutes. Typing skill test (qualifying): 30 words per minute in English or 25 in Hindi on a computer. CBAT (Station Master and Traffic Assistant): a T-score of 42 in each test battery, no negative marking, merit on 70% CBT-2 and 30% CBAT. Minimum marks to qualify in the CBTs: UR and EWS 40%, OBC 30%, SC 30%, ST 25%.

RRB NTPC frequently asked questions

How many vacancies are there in RRB NTPC 2025?

8,868 in all: 5,810 graduate posts under CEN 06/2025 and 3,058 undergraduate posts under CEN 07/2025. Goods Train Manager has the most, 3,416, followed by Commercial cum Ticket Clerk with 2,424.

Can a 12th pass candidate apply for RRB NTPC?

Yes, for the undergraduate posts: Commercial cum Ticket Clerk, Accounts Clerk cum Typist, Junior Clerk cum Typist and Trains Clerk. They need 12th with at least 50% marks; SC, ST, PwBD and ex-servicemen candidates are exempt from the 50% condition.

What is the age limit for RRB NTPC?

18 to 30 years for undergraduate posts and 18 to 33 years for graduate posts, as on 1 January 2026. OBC candidates get 3 more years, SC and ST 5, and PwBD 10, 13 or 15 by category.

Is there negative marking in RRB NTPC?

Yes. One third of a mark is deducted for each wrong answer in CBT-1 and CBT-2. There is no negative marking in the aptitude test (CBAT).

Which NTPC posts have a typing test or an aptitude test?

Junior Accounts Assistant cum Typist, Senior Clerk cum Typist, Accounts Clerk cum Typist and Junior Clerk cum Typist have a qualifying typing test (30 wpm English or 25 wpm Hindi). Station Master and Traffic Assistant have the computer based aptitude test. The other posts have none.

What is the application fee for RRB NTPC?

₹500, of which ₹400 is refunded if you appear in CBT-1. SC, ST, ex-servicemen, PwBD, women, transgender, minority and EBC candidates pay ₹250, refunded on appearing. Bank charges are deducted from refunds.

When are the next NTPC 2025 exams?

The undergraduate CBT-2 is scheduled for 17 September 2026. For the graduate posts, the typing skill test is scheduled for 24 September 2026 and the aptitude test for 30 September 2026. RRB calls these dates tentative.
