The main SSC recruitment exams are CGL, CHSL, MTS & Havaldar, GD Constable, CPO (Sub-Inspector in Delhi Police and CAPFs), JE, Stenographer and Selection Post. The SSC exam calendar also lists exams such as Combined Hindi Translators.
Yes. SSC CHSL and SSC Stenographer need 12th pass, and Selection Post has 12th-level posts. SSC MTS and GD Constable need only 10th pass. CGL needs a degree, and so do most CPO posts.
It depends on the exam and post: CHSL 18–27, GD Constable 18–23, CPO 20–25, and CGL from 18–27 up to 18–32 by post. OBC candidates get 3 more years, SC and ST 5, and PwBD candidates 10, 13 or 15, except in GD and CPO, which are not open to PwBD.
Yes, if you have your degree by 1 August 2026, the cut-off date in the CGL 2026 notice.
Yes, in most papers. CGL and CHSL Tier-I deduct 0.50 marks per wrong answer, GD Constable and Stenographer 0.25, and CPO 0.25 in Paper-I and 0.50 in Paper-II. MTS has no negative marking in Session-I and 1 mark in Session-II.
The subjects are the same: reasoning, general awareness, quantitative aptitude and English, 25 questions each for 200 marks in 60 minutes. The level and the Tier-II papers differ.
Yes. Every SSC exam on this page is offered in English and Hindi. CHSL, MTS and GD Constable are also offered in 13 regional languages.
SSC CGL. Assistant Audit Officer and Assistant Accounts Officer are at Pay Level 8 (₹47,600 – ₹1,51,100 basic pay). Selection Post also has a few Level 8 posts.
The CHSL, CPO, JE and Stenographer 2026 notices state a probation period of two years.
₹100. Women, SC, ST and ex-servicemen candidates do not pay. PwBD candidates are also exempt in the exams open to them. GD and CPO are not open to PwBD candidates. In Selection Post the fee is per category of post.
No. One-time registration on ssc.gov.in (or the mySSC app) is valid for later exams. You then fill a separate application for each exam. Registrations made on the old ssc.nic.in website no longer work.
The photo is taken live in the application form, against a plain background in good light, without a cap, mask or glasses. The signature is a JPEG of 10–20 KB, about 6 cm by 2 cm.
