    Notice

The commission publishes posts, eligibility, fee and dates on its website. Most follow an annual exam calendar. Source

  2. 2
    One-time registration

Register once (UPPSC on otr.pariksha.nic.in, RPSC through the SSO portal, BPSC on its online portal), then apply for each exam. Source

  3. 3
    Prelims

An objective screening test with negative marking. Its marks usually do not count in the final merit. Source

  4. 4
    Mains

Written papers on general studies, state topics, essay and language, depending on the state. Source

  5. 5
    Interview and merit

Final merit is Mains plus interview; posts are allotted by rank and your preferences. Source

01What is a State PSC exam?

Each state’s Public Service Commission holds a combined civil services exam for its own administrative, police and allied services, for posts such as SDM (Deputy Collector) and Deputy Superintendent of Police. Examples are UPPSC PCS, BPSC CCE, RPSC RAS, MPPSC State Service and WBCS.

02Can I apply for another state’s PSC exam?

Yes, in all five exams here. But reservation and age relaxation are only for the state’s own domiciles: in UPPSC, BPSC, RAS, MPPSC and WBCS, reserved-category candidates from other states are treated as General (unreserved).

05Is there negative marking in State PSC Prelims?

Yes, in all five. UPPSC, BPSC and RAS deduct one third of a question’s marks for a wrong answer. In BPSC each question has a fifth option (E) for “not attempted”; a question with no option marked also loses 1/3. MPPSC and WBCS notices also state negative marking.

06Do Prelims marks count in the final merit?

No. In UPPSC, BPSC and RAS the Prelims is a screening test and the merit list uses Mains and interview marks. UPPSC calls 15 times the vacancies to Mains, BPSC 10 times.
