Age as recorded in the Madhyamik or equivalent certificate is accepted.

The paper-wise scheme and syllabus are published by PSC, West Bengal as a separate document with the advertisement. MCQ papers carry negative marking, printed on each question booklet.

What is the age limit for WBCS?
For Group A and C posts, 21 to 36 years on 1 January of the exam year. For Group B (West Bengal Police Service), 20 to 36. For Group D, 21 to 39. SC and ST candidates of West Bengal get 5 more years, OBC (non-creamy layer) 3, and PwBD candidates up to 45.
What is the WBCS application fee?
₹210 plus service charges, paid online. SC and ST candidates of West Bengal and PwBD candidates with 40% or more disability do not pay; OBC candidates pay the fee. SC and ST candidates of other states get no exemption.
Can candidates from other states apply for WBCS?
Yes. SC, ST and OBC candidates of other states are considered for unreserved posts only and do not get relaxation or fee exemption.
Is there negative marking in WBCS?
Yes. Each wrong answer in an MCQ paper loses marks; the deduction is printed on the question booklet.
What is the pay of a WBCS (Exe.) officer?
WBCS (Exe.) is in Pay Level 16: ₹56,100 – ₹1,44,300, besides D.A., M.A. and H.R.A.
Is the WBCS 2025 notice out?
PSC, West Bengal issued Indicative Advertisement No. 03/2025 on 29 November 2025. Age limits, fees and dates for the 2025 exam are announced on psc.wb.gov.in.
